Anyone can take a class in Reiki, and anyone can earn the initial certifications for Reiki - it is simply a certification stating that you have studied Reiki, either for a day, or a year, or some other determined amount of time - that you understand the basics of Reiki. To obtain the level of Reiki Master, one should not only understand the system of healing, but should also be experienced in using it to heal others, and beyond that - should be able to teach properly how it is done, for others to learn.
Myself, I learned at the hands of my older brother, Ronald Paul Hughes. He had studied for a couple years under a Reiki Master in New Orleans, Louisiana, and had obtained his Reiki Master certification. He became my teacher. As I learned, I also practiced. I had a patient, 3 years old, mostly comatose with terrible seizures every day. As I worked with this child, who had never known life, I connected with him on a soul level. Physically I could stop his seizures, and was able to help him wake more in life and experience more than just pain and confusion. In his soul, I connected directly. It began in my sleep. I began having unusual dreams - of a child in a womb, alone and afraid. The same dream came to me again and again - and my brother talked to me, and explained this dream had meaning, that I should allow myself to be fully in the dream when I slept, and love the child in the womb and wait, something would develop to help me understand. It would be a few more weeks before I would understand. As I held the baby in the womb, and loved him, he began to awaken, and I knew - it was my patient. Somehow, by working with him so many hours a week as a nurse in his home (60-72 hours per week), I had connected to his soul, and it reached out for me when I was not with him. It reached out to me in my dreams. He was alone and afraid. He’d died at birth, and been brought back - but never came fully back. His soul was trapped between life and death. All that he knew was pain, fear, and loneliness. As I held to the dreams, he began to awaken in my dreams, and I knew it was my dear little Moses (not his real name). He was no longer in the womb in my dreams, he was in my arms, a little babe. Then slowly the dreams changed and the baby developed and grew. I was determined to help this child experience life, if not in his physical body, then in his spirit, in our dreams. So each time I fell to sleep, I determined to join with Moses in my dreams, and to help him learn and grow, to help him know love. We spent times in fields of flowers, along a beach with the ocean sounds, heard and felt the wind blowing about, saw birds flying over head. There were many dreams I shared with Moses, and as I did so, he became more aware in his physical form. He lived to be 8 years old, and was able to experience this life before transitioning to his next life.
This learning and growing, and working of Reiki both in my waking and sleeping moments, these experiences, these are what prompted my brother to honor me with the certification as Reiki Master. So now, as such, I would share knowledge and understanding of Reiki with you. I would also share healing with you, if it is something that you would need.
The simplest definition of Reiki is "Spirit Guided Healing".
First and foremost, the person practicing Reiki needs to believe in God/Spirit, a being/energy/essence that oversees and guides our lives. In a healing session, the practitioner meditates, sets their own self aside, and opens their heart, soul and body to Spirit - asking Spirit to come to and through them, in order that healing may come to another. Without a firm belief in God, there can be no healing.
For healing to come - there are things that need to be in place.
First, the practitioner needs to believe, and be able to put themselves aside to allow the Holy Spirit to use them and guide the healing energy w here it needs to go. You can give some guidance, but must be able to let the energy choose - as Spirit know better than we where it needs most to go.
Second, the person needing healing needs to also believe that Spirit is able to heal when they ask. A person needs to believe in the existence of God, regardless of how you call Him. He/She should be recognized in your life as a deity that loves and guides, and creates all things. You don’t have to be Baptist. Doesn’t matter if you’re Hindu or Jewish or Catholic. Religion and ethnicity aren't important for healing. Specific beliefs aren’t important. What is important is that you know in your whole being, that there is someone, something greater than all, and that someone/something created us all and watches over us. You are asking that ‘Being’, regardless of how you define Him/Her, to come to you through the practitioner, to bring you healing.
Third, the person needing healing needs to really want to be healed. Sometimes we say we wish to be healed, and we ask for healing - but there are some, that deep down like to be sick, they like the sympathy they receive, or perhaps deep in their soul they want to die - these feelings should be addressed by the ill / injured person. There should be a soul searching as to what they really want in their heart and soul.
Fourth, it must be the will of God. Often he allows healing and miracles, as He loves His children, and doesn’t want to see them suffer. But sometimes, that suffering is for reason, perhaps a life lesson that needs to be learned, perhaps something that is just meant to be. Only God can know for sure, we should never question His judgement, only ask, and believe that He is loving and capable of providing for our needs, and answering our prayer.
In a Reiki healing session, the practitioner considers all these things, and sometimes councils with the person asking for healing prior to a session beginning. This is not necessary, just something that is done if possible. Talking to the person asking for help sometimes helps both the practitioner, and the person in need, to determine what it is that they actually need.
For a session in person, I would first talk with the person asking for help, to be sure they know what they want in their heart, and that they understand what we will try to do.
Then one of two things might happen. Sometimes I feel 'guided' by Spirit, and I might touch my hand to your heart and send energy directly into your heart. When this method is needed you will most likely suddenly feel like crying and telling me everything - which is ok, it just means there was a huge block or burden that you needed to release. It happens, and it is healing to release things that do not need to hold on to you, and to embrace love. I have had sessions where I simply hold my hand to your heart like this through the whole session, feeding loving energy straight into your soul. Sessions like these are completely guided by Spirit.
Other sessions, I have the client sit or lie comfortably, as they desire. Close their eyes and relax. I’d have a gentle music playing to help them relax. If they were on my massage table, I’d have a selection of stones under the massage table (if they are lying on it) to help bring about healing energy. I would have chosen those healing stones prior to the session, based on how the Spirit guides me, even if I don’t know their specific needs yet, the Spirit does. (I’ll write another article in time about the healing energies of stones). And then we begin.
I take in a deep cleansing breath, and release it, releasing myself as I do. I imagine specific Reiki healing symbols to help me focus and to help me let go. I invite Spirit to come into me, to use me, to guide me, and to bring healing to this person, in their body, in their heart, in their soul. The first few moments are like a prayer being said in my heart and soul.
Then I slowly move my hands over their body, without touching them - allowing myself to feel energy imbalance. Then I’d go back again, and work directly where I felt the imbalance, trying to smooth the energy in that location. A session can also be done by just sitting at their head or feet and holding my hands out to them - accepting and sending energy as it needs to flow. The person would feel a warmth coming from my hands, a warmth that can be identified no matter where I am above their body, no matter whether their eyes are open or not - they will feel the energy as a warmth.
I’ve had sessions that began with a client barely able to breath from respiratory distress, then they get off the table, take their oxygen tank, and return home with a new zest in life - able to take breaths they haven’t felt for years. I’ve done sessions where we used a person to represent the person needing healing as they were so far away, and so very ill - we used a ‘surrogate’ patient to allow direct focus to the suffering loved one - with wonderful benefits for both the surrogate and the actual person in need. I also had one session - I was asked to help at the hospital, in a time of great emergency - and as I did, I felt a wall of darkness within the person, a deep desire to die - and with the energy sending the person used it to try to fulfill their true desire to die - and I stopped. I stepped back knowing that I could not provide any healing in this situation and that it must be between her and God whether she lived. She lived, and I will no longer be the connection between her and the Spirit as she has to face her own desires in her soul, and her time will come when God decides. That is the only time I ever felt a negative response to my offer of healing. It is a reality of Reiki though, if a person is very near death, with a desire to die, and a strong sending of energy is given them - it is the choice of their soul whether to use that energy to find healing, or to use that energy to give them the strength and courage to let go of this physical life as we know it, to go to God.
For a Distant Healing session, I generally try to find when the person is at rest, or sleeping. And I connect with you similar to how I connected with my little Moses - in your dreams. A client would contact me, letting me know of their specific needs, and we'd set times to send healing. For distant healing, there isn't just one session - I would continue over a course of days until I feel I have done all I can, or you contact me to let me know how things are going.
As to a cost, for sessions in person, it takes about an hour, and I charge $120 a session. For prayer requests or distant healing, consultation is free by email - I do not charge for these session, but if I am able to help, I accept gifts as your heart guides you. Spirit gives me healing freely, and so I share with others as I am guided and able.
If you wish to request prayer or to set up a healing session, or a distance healing - just email me at spiritguidedhealer@gmail.com
To share healing, a person doesn’t need to be with me, or even know me personally. They only need have a need, and ask. If I am aware of a specific need, and can connect with that person, I can send healing energy to them.
That being said. I offer healing to all who read this. If you have a specific need, that you would like for me to try to help with - simply email me directly at spiritguidedhealer@gmail.com. To be best able to help you, I’d need to know the following:
- Your name (first name is all I really need)
- Your location (city/state/country), mostly as a way to ‘find’ you in my mind
- Your need / illness / injury
- when do you sleep? Time zone? - I do my best distant healing if you are resting comfortably or sleeping
Also, when you sleep, determine in your mind before you go to bed, that you will welcome me in your dreams, that you will welcome any healing Spirit will allow. If I am not ‘welcome’ and invited into your dreams, I cannot connect with you directly. This is primarily because I choose not to to enter where I have not been invited. I can still ask the Spirit to go to you, to help you, but it works better if you consciously determine that I am welcome and the healing is requested and accepted.
Lastly, I would welcome any comments or emails letting me know when you remember a dream that you know I was there. Sometimes people wake remembering, sometimes not - the most important thing is that you find healing. But it is always heart warming to hear from someone how their life was affected by the dreams and healings. These comments are always kept private.
